New Charge for Converting ShadowProtect Server licenses to Virtual Server licenses
StorageCraft have made a licensing change that takes effect from 8 January 2015 – there will be a charge for converting ShadowProtect Server licenses to Virtual Server licenses.
For customers with maintenance, the existing maintenance expiry date will apply, there’s a different price for customers who do not have maintenance and they will then have one year of maintenance from the date of upgrade.
While customers in Australia and New Zealand have not previously been charged for moving from physical to virtual licenses, apparently in the US there has always been a fee, to cover the admin work involved in the license migration. It needs to also be noted that customers will save money by converting the more expensive physical license to a less expensive virtual license. While they are paying for the conversion, they are saving on the renewal costs. In the long term it will even out. RRP Renewal cost for a Physical Server is $241 plus GST vs renewal cost for a Virtual Server of RRP $87 plus GST.
